Summary :

  • Episode 5

Swimming in the pool at Chastanet University was one of the only things that gave Tess a sense of well-being since losing her sight. However, this serenity is turned upside down when the body of Sabrina Chalk, Matt's colleague, is found in the body of water.

Officially a consultant, Tess decides to join the police in order to solve the murder.

  • Episode 6

Lucas, Tess's brother, is the main suspect in the murder of a famous painter, Hamish Galanis. Tess decides to prove her brother's innocence by any means possible.

A well-executed plot

Unlike episode 4, where solving the crime lacked elements to captivate viewers until the end, episodes 5 and 6 highlighted a well-conducted plot.

In both episodes, Tess leads an investigation to find the perpetrator of a crime. Gradually, the spectators are led to reflect with the protagonist. Every little detail placed in the scenes makes you think. Everyone (on screen and behind the screen) gets involved in the detective game. This is also a very present characteristic throughout episode 5.

In the fifth episode, there are several suspects because of the elements that are provided by Tess and the police. At first, Jewel appears to be guilty, as she is very nervous when Tess goes to talk to her, she appears to have a motive, and incriminating items are found in her locker. Jewel's boyfriend (who digs up clothes), Kendra (who has the murder weapon) are also suspects in the episode. However, thanks to the perfume on the t-shirt stained with Sabrina's blood, Tess realizes who the real murderer is: Faith.

This is an interesting point in the episode, since it allows us to highlight new deduction skills. Amputated of one of her senses, Tess increasingly develops her other senses in order to solve crimes.

The sixth episode gives the impression of being more focused on the relationship between Tess and her brother and sister rather than the "crime" side of the series. The episode is not boring because Luca's character is deepen. The viewer discovers that he is sensitive, a little naive, nostalgic and in great pain. He is no longer the chaotic character who doesn't take anything seriously that it was possible to encounter previously.

Episode 5 allows us to discover Tess for the first time in her role as a consultant. It is perhaps this novelty which gives new momentum to the series and the characters. Although Tess remains much the same, it is obvious that her character is adapting to her new status. She also trusts Sunny (who is literally her eyes) more easily than she was able to trust her former partner, Jack, in the past. She trusted her intuition more when she was with him, even if it meant doing her investigation alone in her corner. This is a behavior that she reproduces as a consultant, often leaving Jack in a delicate position, as in episode 6 for example.

But is Tess really right to trust Sunny so much?

Sunny Pattel: a mystery that deepens

Over the course of the episodes, the life of Sunny Patel is revealed a little more and yet, the impression that the mystery around the character continues to increase is present. It's a bit of a contradictory feeling: the more we discover things, the more difficult it is to understand.

This ambiguity is felt even more in these episodes. In episode 5, there are elements of the visual guide's past that echo Kendra's situation. When she was in high school, she did not have self-confidence, so she was prone to bullying at school. In order to free herself from the torment of her classmates, she decided to become 'the queen' of the establishment. To do this, she did not hesitate to use sneaky techniques. Her change brought her incredible popularity.

The mystery around the character deepens further during episode 6. Sunny managed to get her concierge to come into her home. He stays there for several minutes to carry out renovations. There is an inconsistency with what we have seen so far with the character. While she is terrified of letting anyone into her home, she has no problem abandoning the concierge in her chambers. She even invites him to look for what he needs himself. Her guard seems to be lowered as much as possible while she laughs and has a virtual aperitif with Lucas.

However, her barriers are quickly erected when the concierge hands her a wooden box. This box reminds her of his past. There's no clue as to the contents of the box, but it's obvious that it's important to Sunny since she thought about taking it before running away.

The enigma that is Sunny is at its peak at the end of the episode.

The brunette plays an audio sequence in a loop in which Tess says that guilty or not, she would never abandon her brother. Sunny ends up repeating this phrase as a promise while looking at a board. On this board, there are several photos (Tess, Lucas, Matt…), there are lists and pieces of newspapers. The last sentence the guide says “But would you abandon me?”

What is this table for? Is she using it to protect herself or on the contrary for a purpose a little more complex than that? Was Sunny really put in Tess's path 'by chance', (knowing that Sunny seems to know specific corners of the city)?

So many questions that will probably be answered in the episodes to come.

Overall, these episodes were quite catchy and captivating.
